Governor Igor Babushkin inspected a leading agricultural enterprise in the Yenotayevsky District of Astrakhan Oblast, where three new potato stores are under construction, taking the count from eight to eleven and combined capacity to 38,000 tonnes. CEO Alexey Karnaukhov said the expansion reduces harvest risk and lets the company sell in more profitable price periods later in the season. The enterprise added 100 hectares of irrigated land this season for a total of 2,500 hectares, over 1,000 of them under potatoes. Last year it harvested 63,400 tonnes of potatoes and 3,700 tonnes of grain on modest area growth, working on per-plant productivity rather than expansion. Varietal selection is strict: BP808 and Newton for chips, Fontane for fries, and table varieties Baltic Rose, Arizona, Alouette and Queen Anna, with new hybrids in trial.
