Krasa Meshchery, a mid-season table potato bred by the Lorch Federal Research Center and registered in Russia's State Register in 2020, is a flagship result of the Chuvashia–Lorch research partnership. Marketable yield has ranged from 197 to 493 centners per hectare, with a peak of 522 c/ha in the Ryazan region; storability reaches 95%, tubers weigh 100–110 grams, and starch content runs 13.9–16.7%. The variety resists potato cancer and golden potato cyst nematode, and its light flesh does not darken after boiling, suiting it for frying, baking and soups. The Slava Kartofelyu farm in Chuvashia's Komsomolsky district has already scaled propagation to an industrial level. Chuvashia leads the Volga Federal District in potato output per 100 hectares sown, with self-sufficiency roughly double local consumption; the region gave 88 million rubles to 54 potato farms in 2025 and plans over 100 million rubles for 2026, with average yield at 225.8 c/ha.
“Krasa Meshchery” is one of the flagship projects of cooperation between Chuvashia and the Lorch Federal Research Center of Potato. Registered in the State Register in 2020, this mid-season table variety was bred by the Lorch Center and combines strong agronomic performance with excellent culinary qualities. Its marketable yield ranges from 197 to 493 c/ha, with a maximum of 522 c/ha recorded in the Ryazan region. Storability reaches 95%, marketable tuber weight is 100–110 g, and starch content ranges from 13.9% to 16.7%. The variety is resistant to potato cancer and golden potato nematode, and its light flesh does not darken when boiled, making it suitable for frying, baking, and soups. The “Slava Kartofelyu” agricultural company in the Komsomolsky district of Chuvashia has already carried out effective propagation of this variety on an industrial scale.
Chuvashia continues to hold first place in the Volga Federal District for potato production per 100 hectares of sown area, with self-sufficiency in potatoes roughly twice the local consumption level. State support for the sector is substantial: in 2025, 88 million rubles were allocated to potato farming, supporting 54 farms, while more than 100 million rubles are planned for 2026 to stimulate potato and vegetable production. The republic’s average yield has reached 225.8 c/ha — significantly above the national average — underscoring the effectiveness of combining strong regional policy with high-quality varieties such as “Krasa Meshchery.”
